Abstract
Utilizing abstract elements in my early figure paintings, I was drawn to the freedom that abstraction gave me. I would work on abstract painting as a decompression agent. It allowed me to recharge and adjust focus before returning to more detail intensive work. My struggle to move towards a looser, relaxed aesthetic in my figure and urban landscape paintings benefitted from the abstract dynamic. Application of paint. Making marks. Where meaning is buried.
